Pilling happens when short wool fibers work loose and tangle from repeated friction—exactly where sleeves rub a desk, bag strap, or your body at the side seams. The goal is to reduce abrasion, wash gently, and remove fuzz early so it doesn’t build into pills.
Rotate wear days so the blazer can rest between uses. When you do wear it, avoid carrying rough-textured totes on the same shoulder, and be mindful of constant rubbing against denim, zippers, and seat belts. If you layer, choose smoother underlayers (silky tees or fine-gauge knits) to cut down rubbing at the sides and underarms.
Over-washing speeds up fiber breakage. Spot-clean when possible, and when it’s time to refresh, follow the care label and use a wool-safe detergent. Turn the blazer inside out, close any buttons, and place it in a mesh laundry bag. Choose cold water and the gentlest cycle available, or hand wash with minimal agitation. Skip fabric softener, which can coat fibers and increase surface fuzz.
Heat and tumbling are pilling accelerators. After washing, press (don’t wring) water out with a towel, reshape the blazer, and dry it flat away from direct heat. Hanging a wet knit can stretch the sides and sleeves, increasing future friction and fuzzing.
A sweater comb or fabric shaver can quickly clear sleeves and side seams. Use light pressure on a flat surface, working in one direction; stop once the surface looks smooth. Avoid scissors or pulling pills by hand—both can snap fibers and create more pilling later.

Fold it neatly and store it on a shelf, or use a wide, supportive hanger for short periods only. Keep it in a breathable garment bag and avoid tight closets that cause rubbing against other clothes.
